You may be completely comfortable with being gay and still find that some experiences are difficult to put into words.

Dating can make you question your worth.
Sex can feel easier than intimacy.
You can be out and still notice yourself editing certain parts of who you are.
You can feel confident in most areas of life and unexpectedly vulnerable when somebody really matters.

Therapy offers somewhere to become curious about these contradictions without needing to make them more acceptable first.

Area of Focus

  • Relationships & Intimacy: Attachment styles, dating anxiety, fear of vulnerability.

  • Identity & Shame: Overcoming internalised homophobia, perfectionism, coming out, and masking.

  • Sex & Relationships: Kink/BDSM-aware therapy, ethical non-monogamy (ENM), open dynamics.

  • Chemsex Support & Recovery: Harm reduction and therapy for chemsex.

  • Gay Couples Therapy: Conflict resolution, communication, intimacy, and non-monogamy agreements.

Why choose an LGBTQ+ Affirmative Gay Male Therapist?

Shared identity does not mean shared experience.

I will not assume that I understand your life simply because we are both gay.

It may, however, mean that certain conversations can begin a little further along.

You may not need to explain why coming out does not necessarily end the process of hiding.

Why acceptance from other people does not automatically create self-acceptance.

Why dating, masculinity, sex, body image, ageing, family expectations or belonging can sometimes carry meanings that are difficult to separate from being a gay man.

The purpose is not to make sexuality the explanation for everything.

It is to make sure it never has to be avoided.

Gay Men's Therapy does Not have to be about being Gay.

You may be looking for therapy because of anxiety, relationships, loneliness, intimacy, family, self-worth or patterns that keep returning despite everything you already understand about yourself.

Being gay may be central to what you want to explore.

Or it may barely come into the conversation.

What can matter is knowing that sexuality, gay relationships and the realities of gay life do not need to be translated before we can talk about whatever has actually brought you here.

Gay Dating, Attachment, & Relationship Therapy

You may want closeness and still feel unsettled when somebody becomes important.

Perhaps you notice yourself becoming anxious when someone pulls away, or distant when someone gets too close.

You may find yourself comparing, checking, seeking reassurance, avoiding difficult conversations or choosing relationships in which uncertainty becomes strangely familiar.

For some gay men, dating can also bring questions around attractiveness, masculinity, age, sexual confidence and whether being wanted has quietly become connected to feeling valuable.

Therapy gives us somewhere to understand these patterns rather than simply trying harder not to repeat them.

Shame, Self-Worth and Belonging

Shame does not always feel like shame.

Sometimes it looks like perfectionism.

Sometimes independence.

Sometimes needing to be desirable, successful, masculine, easy-going or completely unaffected by what anybody thinks.

Earlier experiences of hiding, rejection, difference or simply having to monitor how you were perceived can leave traces long after life has become more accepting.

You may know intellectually that there is nothing wrong with you and still find that some part of you behaves as though acceptance could be withdrawn.

Therapy can help us become curious about that part rather than fighting it.

Sex-Positive, Kink-Aware, & Non-Monogamy Therapy

Sexuality can be one of the most alive parts of our experience and one of the places where shame, performance and vulnerability become most complicated.

You can talk openly in therapy about sex, desire, sexual confidence, pornography, kink, open relationships, non-monogamy and chemsex when these are relevant to you.

You do not need to sanitise your experience before bringing it into the room.

Nor do we need to decide immediately whether something is “healthy” or “unhealthy”.

We can look instead at what it gives you, what it may protect you from, what it costs you and whether it still fits the life and relationships you want.

Gay Couples Therapy

Gay relationships can contain many of the same difficulties as any relationship, alongside questions that may be shaped by sexuality, identity, sex, monogamy, openness or different experiences of gay life.

Couples therapy can help you slow down recurring patterns of conflict, distance, pursuit or withdrawal and understand what is happening underneath them.

The aim is not to decide who is right.

It is to understand what happens between you.
